Use of Force Checklist: Obtain the basic facts from the involved officers. Absent an allegation of misconduct or excessive force, this will be considered a routine contact in the normal course of duties. Ensure that any injured parties are examined and treated. Ensure that any injuries are documented and photographed. Pictures should include (overall picture, injured area and area where there is complaint of pain) Ensure that witnesses are interviewed and their statements are documented within the police report. Collect video evidence from witnesses, businesses, phones, BWCs, & dash cams A supervisor should conduct a recorded interview with the subject upon whom force was applied. This interview shall be documented in a police report and any recording shall be retained per policy. (Note in the report that the interview was taken outside of Miranda) Debrief Incident. Discuss who is writing primary report and supplemental reports Evaluate the circumstances surrounding the incident and initiate an administrative investigation if there is a question of policy non-compliance or if for any reason further investigation may be appropriate. Make proper notifications and make a "Commander's Log Entry". If officers are injured, complete necessary documentation and submit to Workers Compensation. Complete a "Blue Team" entry (Punch, Injury, Takedown, Tools) Review all reports before finalizing/submission (Use of Force Tab) Ensure BWC video and in car videos are downloaded and preserved.
