K9 Deployment Checklist: Command Post Set Up and Positioning Verify what crime or crimes suspect or suspects will be booked for Detailed suspect description / priors / weapon used / photo Can a victim or officer identify the suspect if located (bring to CP) Verify Perimeter is Contained Stage Fire/EMS Assess size of containment and number of canines necessary to search - minimum of 2 dogs per block. Organize search team for canine handlers- minimum of 3 not including canine officer Identify last known location where suspect was seen Request Air Support to be on scene as soon as possible, and to have a secondary airship if the initial airship needs to refuel Mutual Aid if needed Have all information prepared for K9's arrival so a proper brief can be conducted When feasible, ensure K9 announcements are given via the Air Ship or PA system Attempt to find a responsible party for a building if one is to be searched. Ask about any authorized people who may be inside, pets, and obtain keys for locked doors, if possible. Press Staging Area / PIO Intelligence on suspect, location and vehicles (children, elderly, pets, surveillance cameras, fortifications?) Check area for getaway vehicles. Perimeter units search cars leaving the perimeter, including the trunk.
